Since One&Only Reethi Rah opened it has been THE luxury standard in the Maldives. When One&Only Reethi Rah adds a service, other resorts sometimes try and duplicate. To this day One&Only Reethi Rah has some of the best butlers, service, and facilities in the Maldives.
When Mark Hehir took over the reigns as General Manager of One&Only Reethi Rah two years ago we were very excited as Mark has a culinary background. Amongst other positions, Mark was once the Chef de Cuisine of a tasty restaurant in Japan. True to his background, Mark has increased the focus on culinary concepts at One&Only Reethi Rah. The legendary service the resort is known for now extends through unique dining experiences.
The introduction of the Chef’s Garden Restaurant has been very popular. With One&Only’s famous orchid garden as its backdrop, Chef’s Garden specializes in serving locally caught seafood paired with organically grown vegetables. Freshly caught fish is grilled or steamed and is often prepared with a spice rub infusion. Produce is sourced from One&Only Reethi Rah’s organic vegetable garden and from local artisanal suppliers in the Maldives. In the Maldives, this is no small feat as most other resorts import nearly everything. This unique island-to-table concept has a relaxed, simple, and stunning atmosphere.
For guests who enjoy the organic, sustainable methods of Chef’s Garden Restaurant and want to immerse themselves in a well-rounded, healthy holiday; One&Only Reethi Rah has partnered with Bodyism, founded by personal trainer and health guru James Duigan. The Bodyism Clean & Lean programs are specifically designed to strip fat, enhance health, improve posture and increase performance.
One&Only Reethi Rah’s in-house personal training team are qualified in the execution of Bodyism methods and the benefits of Clean & Lean living. Guests enjoy personalized programs with thorough consultations, fitness tests and realistic goals with achievable results for the end of their stay. Each of the restaurants has Clean & Lean menu items making it easy for guests to maintain their healthy regime.
For guests that choose not to focus on a healthy regime, Fanditha Restaurant is a cool place to indulge. On the northern end of the island this exotic, beachside spot serves Mediterranean inspired dishes, with a fine selection of chilled Rosés and Champagnes. At the lounge area, guests relax on Arabic carpets, bamboo lounge chairs, or in woven hammocks. A late-night party under the stars with a live DJ, creating a chill-out ambiance amidst chandeliers dangling from trees makes for a unique and fun outdoor evening on the beach.
Tapasake Restaurant allows guests to dine in an over water restaurant that combines sunset views with modern Japanese cuisine. The chef hand-picks ingredients ensuring sushi and sashimi are of the highest standards. The menu features superb fish and seafood, transformed into Indian-Japanese tapas. In addition to a selection of premium Sakes, the wine list focuses on the World’s best Rieslings.
The dramatic design of the main restaurant, Reethi Restaurant, frames the natural beauty all-around. To start each morning, Reethi Restaurant has one of the best buffets in the Indian Ocean. The menu for lunch and dinner fuses a variety of cuisines and flavors into contemporary fare. A variety of amazing steaks, pizzas, salads, and curries and are prepared in the ‘open concept’ show kitchen allowing guests to see the finest ingredients prepared especially for them.
Our favorite experience might be the new culinary school One&Only Reethi Rah recently introduced. Under the guidance of master chefs, guests learn the delicate nuances of food presentation and world cuisine. Classes are available in a range of culinary styles such as Maldivian, Chinese, Italian, Indian, Arabian, Japanese ‘Washoku’, Thai cuisine or French desserts and pastries.
The culinary school experience begins with a guided visit to the chef’s garden where the culinary team demonstrates how to select the finest and freshest products while guests hand pick organic ingredients for their chosen course. Upon returning to the culinary school, One&Only Reethi Rah’s master chef guides students through an epicurean selection of the finest cooking products and condiments from around the world including wines, vinegars, oils and olives. Guests prepare exquisite dishes with expert guidance and enjoy their own creations in a sumptuous lunch. Students leave the course with a certificate, recipe card and their very own One&Only Reethi Rah apron and chef’s cap.
