Upon arrival in the Maldives at 10:10 PM, we were through passport control and customs and in the waiting speedboat in less than 10 minutes after the plane landed. It’s the second airport in a row we’ve been through customs this quickly…it helps only having carry-on luggage.
It was a quick 20 minute speedboat to Gili Lankanfushi. We were greeted by the General Manager, Steven Phillips, who had a huge surprise for us. Tara and I were upgraded to the Private Reserve! The Private Reserve is a 15,000 sq. ft. freestanding over water villa out in the lagoon. The Private Reserve is the largest over water villa in the World and has 3 bedrooms, a spa treatment room, its own gym, an entertainment room, dining room, huge living room, and a water slide that goes from the upper level into the lagoon. How fun!
We spent 2 amazing nights at Gili Lankanfushi in The Private Reserve. We enjoyed a wonderful deep tissue massage in our spa treatment room one day and probably set the record for most times using the water slide! Shifaz, the 2014 LT Award – Best Butler Winner did a perfect job looking after us during our stay.
Our last evening was a highlight as we dined with Steven Phillips and his wife at the 360 degree table. The 360 degree table is an elevated table above the organic vegetable garden amongst the trees with a glass cutout in the floor for viewing the garden below, while having views out to the stunning lagoon. The multi-course dinner with matching wine pairings was specially created by the Executive Chef and the Director of Food and Beverages. This was one of the best dinners we’ve had in the Maldives. The food and wine were spectacular!
One of the things we love about Gili Lankanfushi (there are many) is the variety of private dining options. The 360 degree table is one option. Other favorite private dining experiences of mine are a BBQ dinner in the Jungle Cinema, dinner on a private stretch of beach, enjoying a meal on one-palm island, a wine dinner in the underground wine cellar (with access to the chocolate cave), and lunch in the organic vegetable garden with the chef.
Gili Lankanfushi has some of the best staff in the Maldives and is one of our favorite resorts!
