“I can think of nothing better than lying around and doing nothing for a week” is something that I commonly hear when planning trips for clients. However, I more commonly hear “what am I going to do for a week, won’t I get bored?”
For those in the second category, Cathie and I have taken it upon ourselves to try to demonstrate how many activities One&Only Reethi Rah has to offer. Admittedly we did not do absolutely everything but we did have a decent go at it.
Rather than just list them off in bullet point form; we, with the help of the beautiful Sarina from One&Only Reethi Rah, set off on the following adventure. We hope you get a kick out of this, we sure did putting it together.
For the Maldives most people think of water sports, and yes, we did those too but we will get to that later. First up we enjoyed land-based sports.
First stop was the Lawn Club. This is a relatively new area for the resort that resembles an English garden. Thursday afternoons they hold an afternoon tea party here for guests. As for the games, feel free to use them anytime. As you will see below they include Giant Chess, Lawn Bowls and Croquet. We found this area really peaceful and enjoyable.
Spa and Yoga is a staple of the Maldives. However, not all spas are the same. The quality of the treatments and facilities at One&Only Reethi Rah are incredible to say the least. It is by far one of the largest areas dedicated to spa I have seen. The tranquillity of the gardens is dream like. A couples Yoga session is must even for beginners like us. Be sure to get a spa treatment, relax in the gardens and have a drink from the dedicated tea bar. Hair and nail services are also available.
So you have had enough relaxing in the spa and now you want to work up a sweat? That’s easy to do at One&Only Reethi Rah. The gym is fully equipped with the latest brand name equipment. Internet connected treadmills with TV’s, state of the art stationary bikes, TRX training and a killer boxing work out just to get you started. A dedicated protein shakes bar is also a feature of this amazing gym. Again, you may be a novice but I highly recommend a boxing class, it is great (thanks Jamie). Other activities include rock climbing (climbs are certainly easy for a novice) tennis (with tournaments weekly if you desire) and football games a couple of days a week. You are welcome to jump in and get involved. It will certainly get the heart pumping.
For those looking for something a little less strenuous but still fun, try out the table sports area adjacent to the rock climbing wall. Ping Pong, Foosball and 8 ball are all available. A beach badminton court, beach volley ball court and darts are also nearby.
Golfers need not despair. The state of the art golf simulator with practice and playing options is wonderful for those needing to ‘hit a few balls’.
To this point the majority of the activities have been sports related. A unique offering from One&Only Reethi Rah is their Artist in Residence and daily pottery classes. Sit down in the dedicated studio to create your own take home masterpiece! Or, if cooking is more your thing, take a cooking class.
And now its time to get wet! Water sports play a big part of any Maldives trip. Diving and snorkeling are readily available (and Cathie was lucky enough to dive with a Manta Ray). Whether you have experience or not, the underwater world is alive. Also, for those looking to stay on the surface, try any (or all) of the following, Sea Kayaks, stand up paddle boards, pedalo boats, wind surfing, wake boarding, water skiing and jet skis. You will also see some shots of water play equipment which isn’t for kids!
In all honesty we didn’t have time to do every single water sport option. Fishing (both traditional and deep sea), banana boats rides, catamaran sailing amongst many others are things to add to your ‘can do’ list.
There is one thing I would really like to stress and that is whilst all the above is a lot of fun, remember to slow down and absorb your surroundings. Lie in a hammock, relax by the main pool or just sit and look at the view. These things might seem like ‘doing nothing’ in normal day life, but at One&Only Reethi Rah this is what it is all about.
